The described behavior is expected. The difference is only in displaying of elements of an associated diagram, which were hidden in newer versions. Diagrams cannot be contained within an element, only associated with it. This was not changed (also in tutorial version it can seem that two diagrams were created, but one is only a reference).
However, I will analyze possible improvements to associated diagrams.
