Export to SVG is improved in version 4.96.
Gloss effect works good for example in new versions of web browsers (IE9, Chrome12, Opera11). I'll try to improve it to work correctly also for Inkscape in one of next releases. Meanwhile, you can use another style set (Project/Style Set) before export.
