Editing built in element styles.

Support

How do I edit a Project's style set so as to change the display of all elements of a specific type?

For example:

Drop several objects of type Comment on a diagram.

Open Project->Style Set->Edit...

Click New Style

In the New Style dialog select 'For specific element', then select 'Element type' of Comment and click OK.

Now I have an entry [Comment] in the Project's Style Set Editor and editing the settings of the [Comment] style alters the style for all comments in the Project.

That's great and exactly what I want. But the thing is, how do I do that for any other element?

If I drop a 'Text' on a diagram and repeat the same process, there is no entry for 'Text' in the 'Element type' drop down when creating a new style. If I examine the properties for the 'Text' object there is nothing there which tells me what its element type is. I also notice in the 'Element type' drop down loads of entries are duplicated, e.g. Action, Message, Task, Entity etc, and they don't appear to be in any kind of order.

I notice there is a Tools->Lists->Element Names and IDs dialog. But I cannot find an entry for 'Text' under any diagram type.

Website

P.S. This website is terrible and getting worse. Now it appears that when posting any feedback or support request the form will delete any newlines from the message submitted. Hence the lack of paragraphs and formatting in my last post. Why use a bespoke commenting mechanism (which I presume this is) instead of one the numerous servicable ones available for free?

RE: Website

Sorry for the wrong text rendering of your topic. I fixed it. I also added some useful features to comments on this site, so I hope it's better now.

Now you can format your messages with:

  • bold
  • italic
  • underline

or

type some code

with preserved white spaces

or

quote some text

Thank you for your notice about this. It's a little bit problematic now. All items in Drawing toolbox group have the style class 'Shape' (I know, not very intuitive, especially for text).

I will reanalyze/rework this part of the application and I will certainly improve the New Style dialog to be easier to use.
