RE: Diagram Editor?

If you mean the paper size, it's possible using menu Diagram/Bounds.

Feature Request

Hi,

I do not use a lot of features in Ideas Modeler, just doing some SQL ERD stuff. Since I just started and had a good first impression I decided to write down details that freak me out (a little), maybe you could improve your tool:

- My atributes have a special ordner but to change position / rank of an atribute i have to use "move up" by mouse select. This is really a lot of work when you add something you want to pull to the top. Is there any hotkey like +/- i can use?

- When I go to the entity properties to add or change atributes I have to resize the window all the time. Maybe you could save the windows size on exiting.

- Since my last update to version 5 I can't select all entity atributes to copy them to excel, wich I use from time to time.

thx for the good work -.-

RE: Feature Request

PS: Is there a way to import table structure from a MS SQL 2008 Server and maybe later on sync new atributes to the project?

RE: RE: Feature Request

Hi,

thank you for your suggestions, I will certainly implement them in one of next versions (some of them soon in the next release).

It is possible to import table structure using Tools/Reverse Engineering/Database.

Later synchronization is not yet supported, but I added this feature request to my to-do list.

RE: RE: RE: Feature Request

Yeah import looks good but since I keep changing my structure I will need to wait for some sync functions to not loose my descriptions and atribute order etc. but good for a fresh start.

RE: RE: RE: RE: Feature Request

These things were solved in version 5.05:

- When I go to the entity properties to add or change atributes I have to resize the window all the time. Maybe you could save the windows size on exiting.

- Since my last update to version 5 I can't select all entity atributes to copy them to excel, wich I use from time to time.

I will implement also the rest of your suggestions later.

RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Feature Request

Tested (5.06) and works fine.

Maybe, just maybe: I can copy atributes by marking the line and select multiple lines by pressing shift or strg - works. In version 4.x (4.72) it was possible to select all lines in the upper left corner (like in excel). It's not that it has to work this way but I find it more intuitive and it was possible before.

good work

RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Feature Request

Good point. I added this option in 5.07.

This missing features were caused by replacing of default .NET grid with new custom grid to allow faster rendering and other improvements.

PHP Reverse Engineerign

Any chance that PHP reverse engineering will be worked into SIM in the future? Also, it would be nice if I could set a default language for script generation (PHP for example) so I don't have to manually set it each time.

Otherwise, this is the best and easiest program I've had the pleasure of using thus far.

Thanks!

RE: PHP Reverse Engineerign

I will add PHP reverse engineering feature to my to-do list for future versions.

Remembering of default language for generation will be implemented soon - in the next minor update.

Some thoughts

Hello,

First I must say I'm quite impressed about this software, it has almost all I need and it is very likely that our company will buy this software.

A couple of thoughts and suggestions though that I hope you could take into consideration of future releases.

- The white background that is showning the actual usage space by the diagram is for me a bit irritating, I think this should be removed or possible to turn off in options.

- Some parts of the menu should also be moved to the option screen to make the real usful stuff easier to find. For example changing Language is nothing that you need to do often and should therefore be "hidden" in the option window. Also redering quality is something more sutable to be "hidden" in the option window.

- "Copy to image" and "Copy to metafile" feels more sutable to be located under the Edit menu.

- I often prefer the look of what you call Route relation for the arrows(Alt + R). This works very poorly if you enable this for your arrows and then start to move objects. Also, this should be possible to enable as default for arrows (at least later when they work).

- If you add a point to a line, how to you then remove it? I have not found a way to do this whitout removing the hole line an recreate it.

- I love the shortcut handlig for creating and modifying diagrams, awesome work!

Keep up the good work Dušan!

RE: Some thoughts

Hello,

The background of diagram can be changed - Diagram/Diagram Properties/Style. However, the newly created diagram will be again white and you will have to set the custom background again for each new diagram. This behavior will be improved in the next release 5.03.

Language menu will be moved to Options window.

I will add Copy commands to edit - these will work for selected elements. I will create Copy submenu for Copy commands in Diagram menu - these commands work with whole diagram not with the current selection.

Yes, relation routing is not perfect, it will be improved.

A point can be removed by double-clicking on it. I will add this option to the context menu soon.

Thank you for your suggestions and encouragement!

Version 5

Wow! I'm impressed. Any news on when you'll publish version 5?

I'm waiting for multiplicity feature to be implemented. Then, I'll recommend SIM for commercial use at our company.

RE: RE: RE: Version 5

Is there already a target release date or will there be a release candidate first?

Dusan Rodina - softwareideas.net 30 January 2012 0:59:07

RE: RE: RE: RE: Version 5

I made a lot of tests, bug fixes and small improvements during last days - software seems to be quite stable now. The planned release date is February 6th, 2012. After many postponements, this will be the final date.
